Why I don’t eat meat

By Owen S. Parrett, M.D.

Is a person who does not eat meat peculiar or wise?

My mother told me that when I was a baby I refused to eat any kind of meat. She thought – as many mothers do – that I needed meat to make me grow, so she persisted in giving it to me until I acquired a liking for it. For the past fifty years I have chosen diet that does not include flesh, fish or fowl. Read the rest of this entry

Forks Over Knives Lies and Olive Oil

Forks over Knives the documentary has to be the most flawed evidence I’ve seen against olive oil.  They state that the Mediterranean diet is healthy because of the fruit and vegetable content. Have any of these FOK people been to Greece? Doubt it. Greeks eat as much fruit and veg as Aussies. It’s the olive oil!

Facts – VIRGIN or EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil is just the juice of the olives and It’s composition in fatty acids and oder minor components like polyphenols is proven to have healthy effects, including in coronary diseases because it is not refined and doesn’t cause inflammation in our arteries (which causes deposition of cholesterol) like margarine, vegetables oils and olive oil (not virgin).

Plant oils liquify at body temperature. Animal fats solidify. Extra virgin olive oil is COLD PRESSED. It is not refined like white sugar or flour. It is cold pressed. Can’t even be compared. Olive does not clog your arteries! Only animal fats that contain cholesterol does that. Bad cholesterol is only found in one source – ANIMAL FATS! All oils breakdown loose flavour and nutrients, and can develop potentially harmful compounds when you apply heat. olive oils high antioxidant content is especially resistant to these changes. One common myth is that heating olive oil will make it saturated or trans-fatty. This is not true. As far as making a saturated fat, according to Dr. A. Kiritsakis, a world renowned oil chemist in Athens, in his book Olive Oil from the Tree to the Table -Second edition 1998, all oils will oxidize and hydrogenate to a tiny degree if repeatedly heated to very high temperatures such as is done in commercial frying operations. Olive-pomace oils and virgin olive oils are both highly monounsaturated oils and therefore resistant to oxidation and hydrogenation.

I love charcoal

I love charcoal

It was in 1831 when Professor Touery (in the presence of his colleagues from the French Academy of Medicine) drank a lethal dose of strychnine, and, to their great surprise, survived. He mixed the poison with activated charcoal. Activated charcoal is a powerful tool for emergency cleansing of the gastrointestinal tract, perhaps the most effective remedy known today. It can be used in cases of poisoning from virtually any toxic substance. Activated charcoal reduces the absorption of poisonous substances up to 60%. Activated charcoal is a sponge-like substance that is made from different carbon-containing substances of natural origin. Activated charcoal is charcoal that has been treated with oxygen. The treatment results in a highly porous charcoal. It is made at very high temperatures and as a result, activated charcoal is a substance which is almost one hundred percent composed of carbon. The chemical composition of charcoal is very similar to graphite. Useful properties of activated charcoal can be contributed to the huge number of pores and hence activated charcoal exhibits very high absorbent and catalytic properties.
One teaspoon of activated charcoal has a surface area of approximately 10 000 square feet. It adsorbs and helps eliminate toxins, heavy metals, chemicals, pharmaceutical drugs, morphine, pesticides from your body.
Benefits of Activated Charcoal and Its Uses:

Poisoning by various chemical substances, drugs, toxic heavy metals, alkaloids

Overall body detoxification

Food poisoning

Treating stomach pain caused by excess gas, diarrhea, or indigestion.

Body odor and bad breath

Hepatitis: chronic and acute viral

Withdrawal syndrome (as a rule, is used for drinking, not for drug addiction)

Intoxication caused by chemotherapy or radiotherapy

Various skin ailments

Helps lower cholesterol, triglycerides and lipids found in the blood.
Charcoal does not deplete your body of nutrients. In his book Activated Charcoal, David O. Cooney stated, “Charcoal added to the diet of sheep for six months did not cause a loss of nutrients, as compared with sheep not receiving charcoal. … 5 % of the total diet was charcoal. It did not affect the blood or urinary levels of calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, inorganic phosphorus, potassium, sodium, zinc, creatinine, uric acid, urea nitrogen, alkaline phosphatase, total protein or urine pH.” Activated charcoal is often included as an ingredient in body detox products. You can find it various forms such as powder form, liquid form and chewable tablets. How Grandma Met Grandpa

How Grandma Met Grandpa

My yia yia and papou (Vassiliki & Aristidis)

This is a story about how my grandparents met.

All my Greek relatives live in Athens. I never met my dad but met his family when I was 16 and have visited Greece seven times. Language barriers have always been a problem as I don’t know any Greeks in my home town to practise with once I leave Greece.

Therma in Ikaria – Greece’s best kept secret.

Therma in Ikaria – Greece’s best kept secret.

Deep below the earths surface in the village of Therma near Agios Kyrikos in Ikaria bubbles hot springs rich in radium and other minerals. The best way to experience these is to visit the natural and established thermal baths. Ikaria has the most potent thermal waters in the world and not many people know about it. Ikaria has recently been named as a blue zone area of the planet for the longevity of some of the locals with many living over 100 years old.

Some of the locals don’t even believe this, and many don’t use the hot springs. I met mostly people from all over Greece and abroad coming to use them. Read the rest of this entry

save your gallbladder!

Contrary to DR’s medical advice given to patients, there is not a single long term medical study carried on patients known to mankind that backs this medical opinion. In direct contradiction, comprehensive and reputable medical studies confirm up to 40-70 percent of patients who undergo cholecystectomy are likely to develop transient, persistent or lifelong complications.

The gallbladder has a very important function and can be described as a protector of the liver, pancreas, stomach, intestines and colon. It serves as a storage site tp present bile on demand to process food. Bile is also designed to emulsify (digest) fats. When we eat meals with moderate amounts of fat the gallbladderreleases its stores of bile to aid the liver in digesting the fat. The loose stools and urgency are very common side effects of gallbladder removal and/or dysfunction.

Because fats are essential for human health, they cannot simply be avoided. Good luck trying! Fats are required in the diet to help us absorb fat soluble vitamins such as Vitamin A,D,E and K. Fats are also important for the brain and our cell membranes. Fats also provide the building block for steroid hormones in the body such as estrogen, testosterone etc

You cannot be healthy without a gallbladder. You can live, but in many cases be miserable. Some common side effects of gallbladder removal are: Upset stomach, nausea, and vomiting. Gas, bloating, and diarrhea. Persistent pain in the upper right abdomen. Risks include cancer of the Colon, pacreseas and throat (r esophagus) It is a shame when doctors remove the gallbladder. It is the greatest disservice your doctor can do to send you home and pretend you don’t need one. Bet your DR’s never provide you with informed consent on likely risks, which is medical fraud.

Why Fats are Good for you

When properly prepared, olives, like nuts, supply the place of butter and flesh meats. The oil, as eaten in the olive, is far preferable to animal oil or fat. It serves as a laxative. Its use will be found beneficial to consumptives, and it is healing to an inflamed, irritated stomach.—The Ministry of Healing, 298, 1905 – {CD 359.4}
615. Olives may be so prepared as to be eaten with good results at every meal. The advantages sought by the use of butter may be obtained by the eating of properly prepared olives. The oil in the olives relieves constipation; and for consumptives, and for those who have inflamed, irritated stomachs, it is better than any drug. As a food it is better than any oil coming secondhand from animals.—Testimonies for the Church 7:134, 1902 – {CD 359.5}
616. The oil in olives is a remedy for constipation and kidney diseases.—Letter 14, 1901 – {CD 360.1}
I will tell you a little about my own experience with charcoal as a remedy. For some forms of indigestion it is more efficacious than drugs. A little olive oil into which some of this powder has been stirred tends to cleanse and heal. I find it is excellent. Pulverized charcoal from eucalyptus wood, we have used freely in cases of inflammation…  {PC 38.2}

Eating between meals

X-ray studies have been conducted to determine the emptying time of the normal stomach. Anything remaining in the stomach five hours after a test meal is abnormal. The stomach usually empties itself in 2 ½ to 4 hours. Series of tests have been run in which persons have been given routine breakfasts consisting of cereal and cream, bread, cooked fruit, and an egg. These stomachs were x-rayed and found to be emptied normally in less than 4 ½ hours. Read the rest of this entry

What’s wrong with wheat?

For starters, wheat is not the same today. It has been hybrid over time to resist fungus, grow more quickly, and be more pliable for industrial bread baking. 50 years or so ago, wheat contained only five percent gluten. Today, it is 50 percent gluten.

The food industry’s concern for production efficiency and perception of consumer demands has focused on the bottom line with the usual disregard to the negative health consequences of fellow humans. Breads and other baked goods are hastily produced with additives and short cuts that are actually toxic.

In the UK, some of Europe, and North America, slightly different high speed methods of baking evolved over time. By adding “improvers” with usually toxic additives and mixing the dough violently, loaves of bread could be baked, cooled, and packaged within a few short hours.

Vegan mozzarella

This makes about a 350gm block

Just double the recipe if you want a larger block 🙂 1 1/2 cups of rice milk, 1/8 cup olive oil, 1 tsp apple cider vinegar, 1/2 tsp salt, 2 tblsp nutritional yeast, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, 1 tbsp. agar powder 1/4 tsp of maple syrup……. Put everything in a blender & process until it is smooth (about a minute). Then pour it all into a saucepan set over medium heat & whisk constantly until it thickens!! Done. Pour into a lightly greased container of your choice an allow it to cool. Once cooled I put it in the fridge to set. Good luck 🙂 If anyone has a Thermomix (which is what I used). Mix it all up and cook on 90 degrees, speed 3 for about 12 mins with MC off to let steam out.

Greek Roast Potatoes

This is a great recipe from: http://thegreekvegan.com/roasted-potatoes/

Its better to add the crushed Greek oregano AFTER your potatoes are out of the oven. This is because the oregano tends to burn quickly at the high temps used in this recipe.

2 very large baking potatoes
1/4 cup olive oil
2 tsp salt
2 tsp pepper
2 tbsp chopped rosemary
1 cup broth or water
3-4 cloves chopped garlic (2 tbsps)
1/3 cup fresh lemon juice (about 1 lemon)
2 tbsp crushed Greek oregano – add after roasted.

Peel potato and cut into 6 long wedges, set aside. Whisk chopped rosemary, chopped garlic, salt/pepper, olive oil, lemon juice and water/broth together in medium bowl. Add peeled potato wedges to marinade and coat them completely. Transfer coated potatoes and marinade to roasting pan.

Roast potatoes at 200 degrees celcius for 50-60 minutes until fork tender and golden brown. Serve warm from the oven and garnish with additional chopped rosemary and crushed Greek oregano and a wedge of lemon.

You Don’t Need Epsom Salts when Liver Flushing

See also – my liver flush with no gallbladder or epsom salts article and photo.
It is a myth that you must use Epsom salts when doing a olive oil and lemon juice liver flush. You don’t need the Epsom salts. I know this by experience. I have done more than one successful liver flush without Epsom salts and passed many stones without pain or any problems.

When you drink a glass of water, you gallbladder secretes bile. It’s very sensitive. Therefore, if you drink the recommended Epsom salts and water four and two hours before the olive oil and lemon juice, you interrupt your bile build up in the liver and gallbladder for later which you want at it’s highest capacity in order to do a very successful flush. Olive oil itself will lubricate your bile ducts and help them expand. Read the rest of this entry

Coconut Oil Scalp Treatment

Published from:

My all time favorite recipe: Take about 4 tablespoons softened coconut oil, mix with 2-4 (depending on sensitivity) drops tea tree oil, and 3-4 drops of rosemary oil. This is dreamy.

Ingredients from the kitchen: I mix 4 tablespoons coconut oil with 2 tablespoons lemon juice and 1 tablespoon grapefruit juice.

You’ll start on dry hair, and it really makes no difference if it is clean or not. Starting on top, place the brush on the scalp, rotate it across the scalp while pressing down and pull off in the end. Repeat across the scalp, parting hair where necessary. This will stimulate the blood circulation and loosen any dry skin scales. This should feel good, don’t press so hard that it hurts.
Next part the hair down the center and apply the oil mixture to the scalp with the application brush or cotton ball. Work in one inch sections down the sides of the head, then the back making sure the mixture covers the entire scalp.
Now give your scalp (or your friends) a good massage. Rub with your fingertips in a circular motion all over the scalp. Leave the treatment on for about 20 minutes.
